General Conditions




The purpose of the General Conditions is to set out the contractual relationship between The Client and the Company as set out below for the provision of hair and make-up and other beauty services or treatments (the "Services") to be performed by the Company for a specific Event.




This agreement is made between:


"SHM" of 660 Rayners Lane, Pinner, Middlesex HA5 5HN ("SHM")


"The Artist" a freelance hair and make-up professional who shall be identified to The Client once a Booking has been accepted; and


"The Client” who shall be identified as the person named in the Booking Form.


1.    General


a)  Unless otherwise agreed in writing or except where they are at variance with (i) regulations governing Services performed or (ii) the mandatory provisions of law, all offers for Services and all resulting contractual relationship(s) between SHM and The Artist and The Client shall be governed by these general conditions of service

("General Conditions").


b)    SHM may accept a booking from The Client after the completion of a Booking Form and receipt of payments as set out in clause 4.  After acceptance of a booking, and prior to the Services being performed, SHM will introduce The Client to The Artist at which point a contract between The Artist and The Client will be deemed to be in effect and The Artist will perform the Services for The Client, under the terms set out in these General Conditions.


2. Provision of Services


a)    Services will be provided under these General Conditions using reasonable care and skill and in accordance with the Booking and/or any relevant trade custom.


b)    SHM may delegate the performance of all or part of the Services to an agent or subcontractor and The Client authorises SHM to disclose all information necessary for such performance to the agent or subcontractor.


3. Obligations of The Client


The Client will:


a)    Ensure that sufficient information, instructions and documents are provided to enable the required services to be performed;


b)    Allow all necessary access for the Company's representative to the Venue where the Services are to be performed and take all necessary steps to eliminate or remedy any obstacles to, or interruptions in, the performance of the Services;


c)    Ensure that all necessary measures are taken for safety and security of working conditions at the Venue during the performance of Services;


d)   Accept that SHM or The Artist cannot be held responsible for road and traffic conditions and while SHM or The Artist will always do their best to ensure the timely arrival of its representatives, local incidents, weather conditions, unscheduled road works and unforeseen bottlenecks may conspire to delay a representative. In the unlikely event of an inability on the part of SHM or The Artist to get a representative to The Client, a full refund will be payable.


e)    Ensure that the SHM or The Artist's representatives are not delayed in their endeavours to complete the services through the non-arrival at the Venue of The Client or other members of their party. The delayed appearance of The Client or interruptions to the service caused by external influences may result in SHM or The Artist being unable to complete the work on time which SHM or The Artist cannot be held responsible for.


4. Fees and Payment


a)    Fees not established between SHM and The Client at the time the order is placed or a contract is negotiated shall be at the Company standard rates (which are subject to change) and all applicable taxes shall be payable by The Client. Any additional Services requested and performed on the Event Date will be charged at SHM’s standard rates and payable within 5 days of the Event Date.


b)    In order for The Client to secure a Booking a Booking Form must be completed and returned to SHM by email along with the first payment instalment.


c)    Payment will be made in three instalments. The first instalment is payable at the time of Booking and such booking will not be accepted and confirmed until the afore-mentioned first instalment is received. The second instalment is payable within no later than 48 hours after the trial.  The third instalment will be payable 4 weeks prior to the Event Date. In the event that a Booking is received less than 6 weeks prior to the Event Date all of the instalments will be payable at one time.


d)   In the event of any unforeseen problems or expenses arising in the course of carrying out the Services, SHM or The Artist shall endeavour to inform The Client and shall be entitled to charge additional fees to cover extra time and cost necessarily incurred to complete the services.


5. Liability and Indemnification


a)    Services are conducted on the basis of information, documents and/or verbal requests provided by The Client.  Neither SHM nor The Artist nor any of their officers, employees, agents or subcontractors shall be liable to The Client nor any third party for any actions taken or not taken outside the remit of the Service supplied nor for any problems arising from unclear, erroneous, incomplete, misleading or false information provided by The Client.


SHM and The Artist shall not be liable for any delayed, partial or total non-performance of the services arising directly or indirectly from any event outside the Company control including failure by The Client to comply with any of their obligations.


The liability of SHM or The Artist in respect of any claim for loss, damage or expense of any nature and howsoever arising shall in no circumstances exceed the costs of services contracted to provide.


SHM or The Artist shall have no liability for any indirect or consequential loss including delays, cancellation or other factors affecting the Event or any additional costs incurred by The Client.


In the event of any claim, The Client must give written notice within 30 days of discovery of the facts alleged to justify such claim and, in any case, SHM or The Artist shall be discharged from all liability for all claims for loss, damage or expense unless suit is brought within one year from (i) the date of performance of the service which gives rise to the claim; or (ii) the date when the service should have been completed in the event of any alleged non-performance.


a)    Indemnification: The Client shall guarantee, hold harmless and indemnify SHM or The Artist and their officers, employees, agents or subcontractors against all claims (actual or threatened) by any third party for loss, damage or expense of whatsoever nature including all legal expenses and related costs and howsoever arising relating to the performance, purported performance or non-performance, of any Services.


6. Cancellation


b)    The Client may cancel any or all of the Services ordered at any time by notifying SHM or The Artist. Any instalments paid up to the date of cancellation will be retained in full and should the cancellation be received six weeks or less prior to the Event Date the full fee will be payable by The Client.


c)    For all Trials or other appointments arranged by the Company except for the Event itself, 24 hours' notice must be given to cancel the appointment. In the event that an appointment is cancelled less than 24 hours in advance the full fee associated with the appointment will be payable.


7. Miscellaneous


a)    If any one or more provisions of these General Conditions are found to be illegal or unenforceable in any respect, the validity, legality and enforceability of the remaining provisions shall not in any way be affected or impaired thereby.


b)    The Client will be deemed to have accepted these General Conditions by the act of issuing a completed Booking Form to SHM.


8. Governing Law, Jurisdiction and Dispute Resolution


a)    These General Conditions shall be governed by the laws of England and Wales and any disputes arising between the parties or any of them shall be resolved by the courts of England and Wales.


9. Travel Expenses


The client will cover any necessary travel expenses of the Makeup Artists mileage fee at 0.40p per mile return journey and this is to include should it be required congestion charging/tunnel fees and parking charges.


10. Definitions


In these General Conditions, unless a contrary intention appears:


"Client" means the person named in the Booking Form


"Booking" means an order for Services issued by The Client


"Booking Form" means a written order provided by The Client in a form acceptable to the Company setting out the requirements for the Services to be performed for an Event


"Event" means an occasion for which The Client requires the Services to be performed


"Event Date" means the date on which The Client requires the Services to be performed


"Trial" means a test of hair and/or make up services, which might be performed by the Company prior to the Event Date


"Venue" means the location at which the services are to be performed.


What brands do you use?

Story do not stick to any one name, we use a variety of high quality brands from MAC, Paul &Joe cosmetics, Laura mercier, Cosmetic A La Carte to Dermalogica.  We use brands that mix well together to acheive that flawless, long lasting look. 


Is it really that important to have a trial?

Crucial!  Not only will you be meeting your artist and familiarising yourself with the way they work, whilst taking advantage of your artists skills and being pampered for a few hours. This is the time for you to try out any ideas you may want, to successfully find your chosen look for your occasion.  It will also allow you and your artist to organise a schedule for the day, ensuring all hair and make-up is completed in a timely, calm fashion.



I am not happy, but don't want to insult my artist?

SPEAK UP!  The trial is an absolute waste of time, if you leave not feeling your look is complete.  Not only will you have wasted your time and money, but your artist cannot read your mind and if they do not know you are unhappy and you leave, they cannot change this. Honestly, we will not be offended.  We would be more offended if you don't say!



I haven't a clue what I want, can you advise me?

That's what we are on hand for.  By using the references you have selected, the syle of your dress and any other accessorize, we will work out what will suit your face shape, style and character.  You may have a specific theme you want to use to inspire your look, and by all means this can be incorporated, however subtle or dramatically you want.



Will you travel to me?

We would be happy to travel to you or you come to us, it is totally up to you what would suit. If we are to travel to you, mileage will be calculated and added to the balance of your booking, along with any other travel expenses incurred.



What treatments should I have prior to my Big Day?

You want your skin to be the best it can, we would maybe recommend investing in a course of facials, suited to your skin type.  We would be happy to suggest brands we believe to be reliable and which give positive results.

Alot of brides have enquired about having false lashes, I would discourage having strip lashes, as they may not last the day and even look a bit un-natural.  I would suggest having your lashes permed and tinted to give them a an extra lift.  If you feel this is not enough, experiment with indidual lashes prior to you day, to give you time to decide if they are the look you want, your artist can apply individuals on your trial, to give you an idea of what they'd look like for the day.

(Tinting, perming and individual lashes can be applied at most beauty salons.)
